ACTS for Appellate Courts
Office Automation Consultants, Inc. (OAC) developed the Automated Case Tracking System (ACTS) for Appellate Courts to streamline court management and enhance the appellate process. The software tracks:

  • lower court information
  • record, and exhibit information
  • participants and counsel of record
  • court events such as notices of appeal, writs, case records, filing fees, briefing schedules, oral argument schedules, petitions for rehearing and remands.
  • due dates and scheduled actions.

The ACTS software greatly simplifies the time consuming task of searching docket books and case records for information on the current status of a specific case. The software is capable of handling consolidated cases and removing the redundancy of data entry for secondary consolidated cases.
From the time that a notice of appeal is lodged to the publication of a final disposition or opinion the ACTS software is improving appellate court operations by:

  • tracking critical dates
  • automatically generating notices and orders
  • extracting decisions of the court for press releases or electronic transfer
  • handling filing fees and other accounting information
  • generating critical reports as set up by the users and also generating ad-hoc reports at a minutes notice.

The ACTS software, developed using Progress, a Fourth Generation Language and Relational Data Base Management System, is available on many different mainframe, workstation and PC hardware platforms. By fully integrating ACTS with PC-based word processing software such as MS Word or WordPerfect, a client can automatically generate all documents needed during the life cycle of case.  Finally, ACTS is image-ready, facilitating the implementation of imaging systems where they can be effective.
